Frequently Asked Questions
Why should I care about scholarships?
The costs of higher education are skyrocketing. Consider the following estimates of how much it will cost a parent to send their child to these schools for one year (estimates are for tuition and room and board for one undergraduate year):
These costs continue to outpace the rate of inflation and challenge the ability of most families to pay tuition bills. SLC believes that every student should attend the best school for him/her regardless of cost. Scholarships can be a key ingredient to making that happen.
Incredibly, most students will never apply for scholarships while in high school or college. Virtually all students believeincorrectlythat loans are the only way that they can pay for college. SLC wants to show you why you do not have to burden yourself with massive students loans when you graduate.
How is SLC different?
SLC seminars are presented by Jason Lumwinner of nearly $250,000 in scholarships. Few educational consultants approach his total winnings. In addition, all of the seminar and individual advising techniques have been tested and proven in actual scholarship competitions. SLC's seminars have received top reviews from dozens of major Minnesota school districts. Finally, SLC is a member of national advising organizations and adheres to the highest standards of professionalism.
What if I'm not a top student?
SLC was created to destroy the idea that only 4.0 students with perfect SAT or ACT scores can gain entry to top colleges and win scholarships. In fact, Jason was not even in the top 10% of his class in high school and did not score extremely high on the SAT. He still attended Harvard and Berkeley and paid for virtually all of his post-high school education with scholarship money.
Does SLC work with schools or individual parents/students?
Both. SLC originally started by providing seminars to large audiences in colleges, high schools and school districts. Today, Jason also provides individualized services to help students develop strong applications for college admissions and scholarship competitions.
Are you one of those "scholarship search" operations that charges money to find scholarships?
No. SLC provides seminars and advising services. Our only product is our advice. We show students how to find scholarships on their own. You receive the search tools you need to locate scholarships all through high school, college and graduate school. Our philosophy is that a student should be able to use the skills we teach them in order to locate suitable scholarship opportunities.
